Dear Students,

Welcome to Ms. Viñas Acting Class! I am also your Killian Players/Thespian Honor Society Sponsor. I am thrilled to start this incredible journey with you as your Acting/Drama Teacher and Thespian Honor Society Sponsor and can't wait for the fun to begin!

My name is Ivette Viñas. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and Theatre Performance from New World School of the Arts and University of Florida. I am currently finishing my Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a specialization in Theatre Pedagogy from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and will begin my Doctoral studies in Educational Leadership in the Fall of 2023 at St. Thomas University.

I have spent over 20 years working as a professional singer and actress, as well as, teaching private voice and acting classes to students of all ages. Throughout the years, my passion for teaching and sharing the gift of theatre and music have become, what I consider to be, my life's purpose.

This course is MUCH more than an acting class, btw. I teach important skills that can help anyone throughout life's many stages, such as, learning how to collaborate with others, share ideas, communicate effectively, and being considerate of different points of view. My course will also teach valuable critical thinking skills by delving deep into character analysis, studying the human condition, and developing empathy.

My goal is for you to see me loving the theatre every time you walk into the classroom with hopes that I will instill creativity and confidence in you, while offering you invaluable tools for you to use in everyday life.

By the end of the year, you will have acquired knowledge of various acting techniques, theatre and film history, classic theatre, and voice and stage movement. You will also have developed an appreciation of the Theatre as a collaborative art form, with a deep understanding of the never- ending discipline, work ethic, and hard work that is ever-present in our profession.
